NEW YORK – A free energy savings calculator from Con Edison’s website (www.coned.com/myenergytoolkit) can help customers prioritize their potential energy-savings investments.
Con Edison Customer Service Representative Rosalva Nuñez introduces customers to the nine easy steps (click here to watch video) they can take in a 10-minute home energy survey. Using the calculator provides money-saving steps as well as current programs and rebates available for those who take energy efficiency measures.
“Taking environmentally-sound steps to reduce energy use is quick and easy,” said Marilyn Caselli, Con Edison’s senior vice president for Customer Operations. “Using the calculator shows how you can get the biggest bang for your buck; it takes your building’s age, exposures and features into account, and even allows for weather variations to yield a sophisticated payback analysis.”
Con Edison’s energy calculator software was developed by Apogee Interactive, of Atlanta, which specializes in accurate energy-use analysis in the utility industry. The company has software that powers more than 600 energy efficiency and smart grid communication programs.
Apogee’s sophisticated software was customized for Con Edison and tested with accounts that reflected the service area’s varied building stock, company rates, and weather patterns. Customers input some information to receive energy savings estimates, and can refine even more specific results by using their own billing data.
“Con Edison serves a diverse landscape,” remarked Apogee co-founder and chief software architect Joel Gilbert. “Our software accommodates virtually all housing types, showing customers how they can make specific behavioral changes and/or home improvements to lower their energy costs.”
