The New Rochelle Fire Department was called to a scene of a house fire by neighbors at 303 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
Fire department has two lines stretched and reporting fire in the walls.There are 4 engines and two ladders on scene along with car 2302.
After inspecting the entire house including the roof in the area of the chimney, firefighters initially thought that the smoke may have been coming from a junction box.
The Journal News is reporting that a lit cigarette appears to have been the cause:
Nobody was injured in a fire at a single-family home this afternoon apparently caused by cigarette smoking, a fire official said. The blaze was reported about 3 p.m. today at 60 Argyll Ave. Firefighters were able to contain the fire on the third floor in less than an hour. Deputy Fire Chief John Reed estimated there was about $20,000 in property damage.
