The Palestinian Vision for the Future of Jerusalem, the third in a four part lecture series focusing on the multiple historic and political complexities of Jerusalem, will be held at Temple Israel of New Rochelle, Wednesday evening, March 13th at 7:30 pm. Sponsored by the Israel Action Committee, there is no charge and the lecture is open to the community.
Dr. Helga Tawil-Scouri will present the Palestinian perspective on this highly charged subject that has been the subject of discussion at two previous presentations from differing view-points.
Dr. Tawil-Souri is an Assistant Professor of Media, Culture, and Communication and Affiliated Faculty in the Department of Middle East and Islamic Studies at New York University. Her scholarship is on contemporary cultural politics and focuses on culture, media, and technology in everyday life in Israel-Palestine in the post-1993 period, including the internet, telecommunications, television, film, videogames, ID cards and checkpoints. Her work has been published in journals including Geopolitics, Social Text, Space and Culture, Development, Jerusalem Quarterly, among many others. Her book, Digital Occupation, on technology infrastructures in Israel-Palestine, is currently in press. She serves on the editorial board of numerous academic journals, is the reviews editor of the Middle East Journal of Culture and Communication and is an occasional op-ed writer for Al Jazeera English.
The fourth lecture, to be held in May, will feature a talk by Ir Amim, an Israeli with a definitive “vision” for the future of coexistence in Yerushalayim, the “city of peace.”
