(New Rochelle, NY) — Recently, The Friends of Sound Shore Medical Center (SSMC) (Friends) hosted their 2012 Marie F. Vitt Humanitarian Award (Vitt) Dinner and Silent Auction at Glen Island Harbour Club in New Rochelle.
Over 250 enthusiastic guests gathered to celebrate the accomplishments of this year’s honorees. They are New Rochelle native and resident, Frank Bernabei, who was honored for his long time support of SSMC, including his invaluable help in establishing the Medical Center’s annual The Stride 5K Walk & Run, and Rani Rangraj for her years of service that include serving as a member of the Friends of SSMC and the Vitt Committee.
Each honoree was thanked for their community service, dedication to Sound Shore Medical Center and their long-standing commitment to improving the quality of life for the greater Sound Shore region.
The evening’s emcee was William Zimmermann, City of New Rochelle Parks & Recreation Commissioner. He had the pleasure of presenting, along with City Manager, Chuck Strome, the 2012 award winners Proclamations from the City of New Rochelle. In addition, they presented a proclamation to Mr. Bernabei from Assemblywoman Amy Paulin.
The Friends established this event to honor the legacy of Marie F. Vitt, SSMC’s former Chairman of the Board of Governors, who is remembered for her volunteerism, spirit of philanthropy and commitment to her community as well as Sound Shore Medical Center. Each year the recipients of this prestigious award are selected for their good works that exemplify the humanitarianism and spirit of this extraordinary woman.
In addition to highlighting the accomplishments of leaders, the Vitt evening also featured a Silent Auction with premier packages–including a trip to anywhere in the US for two, golf foursomes, sporting event tickets, artwork, home accessories, and specialty items. This year’s event enjoyed a heightened level of excitement with the introduction of BidPal. Real-time electronic bidding and donations punctuated the evening and enlivened the event. The proceeds from the evening will benefit Sound Shore Medical Center’s Emergency Services Department.
