New Rochelle firefighters responded late last night to an active fire with heavy smoke and flames pouring out of a building at 1289A North Avenue. Three stores were affected: a photo store, an empty store and a nail salon. No injuries were reported.
[Unfortunately, I accidentally left my cell phone in my car and missed the call. Here is where we can put the concept of networked journalism to the test. If you were there and have additional information, photos or video please email me at robertcox@talkofthesound.com. Thanks!]
A Shame
This is a shame. All of New Rochelle’s, Scarsdale’s and White Plains’ Boston & Westchester’s stations should be preserved.
No worries
I dont think you need to worry, the guys did a great job extinguishing a large volume of fire fast.Quick work by roofmen kept the fire from running the cockloft and the main volume of fire present on arrival was quickly knocked down and confined. The damage appears more cosmetic to the entire structure than it appears. The only store with major damage was the photo store which it started.Every firefighter on duty was called to the scene, this quick decision making saved the building. It is not uncommon and quite easy to lose a whole row or block with fires like this,it was a very good firefighting and quick actions that saved the building.Ladder 12, the truck the politicians wanted to close was on the roof that night, without them on scene things could have turned out differently.Great work NRFD.This building was most deffinetly saved.
Old Boston and Westchester railroad station
This is a shame, that’s the old Boston and Westchester railroad station. I hope it can be saved and rebuilt and not tore down.
Here a link to a picture of the station below
