When he agreed to attend Liberty University on Wednesday, Monroe’s sharpshooting guard Davon Marshall became the first of the Mustangs’ much sought-after sophomore class to sign with an NCAA school after one of the best seasons in Monroe history (Drimir Ferguson signed with North Carolina Central in December). Davon finished his career at Monroe with 960 points as the fourth leading scorer in Mustangs history. He was this year’s yeam MVP, a first-team Region All-star, the team’s leading scorer, and on the National Tournament team

Layer Signs Marshall To National Letter Of Intent
April 11, 2012 – Lynchburg, VAHead Liberty Men’s Basketball Coach Dale Layer has announced the signing of Davon Marshall (G, 5-11, 165, Niagara Falls, N.Y.) to a national letter of intent for the 2012-13 academic year. Marshall, a junior college standout, comes to the Hill City after spending two seasons at Monroe College in New Rochelle, N.Y.
“Davon is a winner,” Layer stated emphatically. “He has played two seasons at nationally ranked Monroe College and has been coached at a high level by Coach [Jeff] Brustad and his staff. Davon can play two different positions, can score and has a terrific spirit and presence on the floor. We are looking forward to experiencing his impact on our program and university.”
This past season, Marshall led the Mustangs in scoring, averaging 15.6 ppg. In addition to his 546 tallies on the season, Marshall also paced Monroe in three-point field goals, hitting 102-of-223 shots (45.7 percent) from downtown.
Marshall’s performance during the 2011-12 campaign helped guide the Mustangs to a fifth-place finish at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I Men’s Basketball National Tournament. The New York native averaged 19.8 points during the four-day event, earning a spot on the NJCAA All-Tournament team.
Marshall concludes his time at Monroe fourth all-time on the program’s scoring list, racking up 960 points in two seasons. During his freshman campaign, he averaged 11.2 ppg and shot 41.3 percent from behind the three-point arc.
“Davon was a great player in his two years at Monroe,” Mustangs head coach Jeff Brustad said. “He earned everything he got with his hard work and dedication. He will be sorely missed by everyone here and we wish him a successful career at Liberty. We expect that he’ll do very well.”
A letterwinner at Niagara Falls High School, Marshall earned all-state honors and averaged 19 points and five rebounds his junior season before concluding his senior year averaging 17 points, seven rebounds and three assists per game. Upon signing with the Flames, Marshall becomes the fifth member of Liberty’s 2012-13 recruiting class, joining JR Coronado, Emmanuel Andrews, Chad Donley and Larry Taylor.
