“Pictures at an Exhibition”, a live performance of poetry and music, will be presented at the New Rochelle Public Library on Sunday, April 29, at 3:00 pm. In this innovative program for National Poetry Month, Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky’s 1874 musical composition, “Pictures at an Exhibition”, will serve as the centerpiece for poetry written and read by members of the Westchester Poet’s Express. Six movements of the suite–a classical standard for piano virtuosi–will be performed by pianist Marianna Salzman. Just as Mussorgsky’s piece was inspired by the works of artist Viktor Hartmann, the Poet Express poets will present their works that have also been inspired by works of art.

Westchester Poets Express is a group of poets who first met in 2007 at The Hudson Valley Writers’ Center with instructor and poet Rebecca McClanahan. The ensemble of local poets gives public readings and has published their writing in numerous publications. Participating poets include Linda Ashear, Ruth Handel, Adrienne Hernandez, Margaret Kogan, Cliff Nelson, Jena Smith, Carolyn Van Ness, Carolyn Whittle, and Amy Winkler.

The program is supported by funds from the Friends of the New Rochelle Public Library, a 501c3 non-profit organization. A donation of $2.00 is suggested at the door.
