(New Rochelle, NY) — Recently Sound Shore Medical Center of Westchester (SSMC) held its fifth annual Stride 5K Run & Walk to benefit its Jacee Lynn Cappelli Diabetes Center for the Treatment and Education of Juvenile and Adult Diabetes.
Commenting on the event, John R. Spicer, President and CEO of Sound Shore Medical Center said, “I was pleased to have so many join us for our fifth Stride to benefit the Cappelli Diabetes Center”. He concluded, “I want to thank the enthusiastic runners and walkers who, again this year, made The Stride a big success.”
This much anticipated event brought more than 300 participants to the Queen City of the Sound, including premiere area runners and amateur enthusiasts of all ages and abilities. Whether as individuals or as teams – representing families, friends, neighbors or co-workers of those touched by the disease, participants joined forces and focused attention on the fifth deadliest disease in the U.S. Some of the teams participating were New Ro Runners, BlackBoard Pizza Shop, ShopRite, Junior League of Westchester on the Sound and McClancey High School. Among the many participants were the Mayor of New Rochelle Noam Bramson, who ran the course; and President and CEO of SSMC John R. Spicer and his wife, Kathy, who were enthusiastic walkers.
In addition to encouraging physical fitness and highlighting its benefits in the fight against diabetes, Sound Shore Medical Center Diabetes Center staff provided diabetes risk assessments as well as material on healthy lifestyles, physical activities and proper nutrition. In addition, they were actively engaged in the event, including presenting the awards. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Cappelli Diabetes Center at Sound Shore Medical Center.
