Statement from Westchester Board of Legislators Chairman Ken Jenkins (D-Yonkers) on District Court Judge Denise Cote’s ruling today reaffirming the need for County Executive Robert P. Astorino to promote source-of-income legislation as part of the Fair and Affordable Housing Settlement between Westchester County and the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development:
“Today’s decision from U. S. District Judge Denise Cote acknowledges and reaffirms the County Executive’s obligation under the terms of the Fair and Affordable Housing settlement agreement to promote source-of-income legislation that will deter landlords and realtors from discriminatory practices. I hope this convinces County Executive Astorino to tone down his rhetoric and simply comply with all of the terms of the settlement. Also, I call on the County Executive to present source-of-income legislation to the Board of Legislators to resolve this hurdle and restore the community development block grant funding to Westchester. It’s time to again move forward: Westchester needs fair and affordable housing, and providing new homes for our seniors, veterans and young professionals will create hundreds of jobs and strengthen our communities.”
Jenkins vs Taxpayers
What side is Jenkins on? Is he with the taxpayers of Westchester County or the intrusive & overreaching federal government. Reading his quote, it is clear he is with HUD and Feds. This is remarkable for an official who swore an oath to protect the people of Westchester!
Jenkins a hack, Idoni to challenge Astorino
Jenkins is and always has been a political hack going back to his days on News 12 News Makers. He owns two houses, one on either side of the street, to maintain his County Legislative seat. He “resides” in one house while his family “resides” across the street.
Jenkins is posturing for a run against Astorino but the word around town is Tim Idoni will announce his challenge of Astorino at a fundraiser soon.
“Hack” is Putting it Kindly
Here’s a guy whose sole purpose is self promotion with little or no regard for the taxpayers he was sworn to represent. He must have had his fingers crossed when he took the oath. Seems like nearly every day he issues a press statement that’s all grandstanding and no substance. Shameless and counterproductive to getting anything good accomplished for the county.
Why does West. Co NY needs to create its own law on this?
Why is this? I really don’t understand why Westchester County NY needs to create its own unique law on this.
Very few, if any, jurisdictions have laws like this so why are the Feds trying to force Westchester to come up with its own law?
Landlords have every right to know where the money’s going to come from to pay the rent and if they don’t like the source (such as parents, employment, disability ins., Section 8, unemployment ins. or wherever) then they should have a right not to accept a tenant. Why should that be against the law and against the law only here in Westchester County NY?
At least Rob Astorino isn’t rolling over & just accepting what the Feds are ramming down the county’s throat like Andy Spano would’ve done.
