Obituary: Rita Curran-Lambert (1917 – 2012)

Asheville – Rita E. Curran-Lambert, 94, of Asheville, passed away peacefully, May 3, 2012.

Born in Springfield, MA, she was the daughter of George and Marie Seguin St. Pierre. She graduated from Cathedral High School and attended The College of New Rochelle, New Rochelle, NY. Mrs. Curran-Lambert has been a resident of Asheville for the past 8 years, moving from Bradenton, FL.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, William E. Curran in 1986, and second husband, Albert Lambert in 2000. Rita worked for over 25 years at the Catholic Observer, the newspaper of the Catholic Diocese of Western Massachusetts, first as Circulation Manager, and then as Assistant Editor. She left the paper in 1976, when she and her husband William retired to Florida.

She was an avid bridge player, and a member of the New Friends, the Bridge Marathon, and the Friday Senior Bridge Club at the Harvest House. She was also a member of the Basilica of St. Lawrence, D.M..

She is survived by two sons and their families, Dr. Ronald G. Curran and his life partner, David Henderson; Allan F. Curran and wife Deborah; grandchildren, Jennifer, Matthew, Jeffrey and Kimberly, great grandchildren, Isabelle, Jake and Cameron; brother, George St. Pierre, Jr. and his wife Virginia, as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Sunday, May 6 from 1 – 3 P.M. at Groce Funeral Home, Tunnel Road. A Memorial Mass will be held May 21, 2012 at the Basilica of St. Lawrence at 10:30 AM. Rev. Father C. Morris Boyd will officiate.

A 10 A.M. Mass will be held at St. Catherine’s of Sienna, Springfield, MA, on May 9th. Burial will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery.
