(New Rochelle, NY) — The New Rochelle Public Library’s Summer Reading Kick-off Party, designed to raise the level of enthusiasm for a summer of reading pleasure, will be held on Saturday, June 23, beginning at 1:00 pm, and will feature a 45-minute performance by the popular children’s entertainer, Louie Miranda. His lively bilingual program of spirited singing, dancing and games will begin at 1:15 pm in Library Green or in library’s Ossie Davis Theater in the event of rain. Children entering Pre-K – Grade 5 will have an opportunity to sample some of the programs being conducted at the main library and the Huguenot Children’s Library, from July 2 – August 10. The theme of the programs this summer is “Dream Big @ Your Library!” and complimentary craft stations will provide the materials and guidance for take-home projects. Parents will have the opportunity to register their children entering Pre-Kindergarten – Grade 5 in the library’s summer reading incentive program: Dream Big: Read! Children will receive materials to keep track of the books they read so that they can win prizes throughout the summer.
Organizations serving preschool children and their families will also be joining in the Kick-off Party to promote Born Learning, a public education campaign that helps parents, grandparents and caregivers explore ways to turn everyday moments into fun learning opportunities. A special area with book-making, crafts, games and other activities will engage infants, toddler and preschoolers. For more information on Born Learning, see: http://www.uwwp.org/bornlearning.
The full slate of six-week summer programs for preschool and elementary students at the main library and the Huguenot Children’s Library, including nature, crafts, calligraphy, chess and needlework, visits from live animals, and family films, can be seen on the library’s web-site: www.nrpl.org..
The Summer Reading Kick-off party is sponsored by the Friends of the New Rochelle Public Library and the New Rochelle Downtown Business Improvement District (BID). Born Learning is an initiative of United Way of Westchester and Putnam.
