As a county legislator, I attend many civic dinners. Often, when I hear the name of the honoree I laugh to myself, “how did he/she get honored again – there has to be more deserving people in our community.”
I am happy to report that my favorite radio station, WVOX, 1460AM, held a dinner on Wednesday night, June 13, at the legendary Mario’s on Arthur Avenue in the Bronx and honored someone who truly deserved it – Richard Littlejohn was recognized for his 25 years of service to the station. He has been on the air in the middle of the night for much of this time. Because I am a night person, I have met with Richard many times at the station after midnight, when I needed to tape a commercial or do a report on the Board of Legislators for the next morning, and I always found him to be such a nice, thoughtful, professional and dedicated guy.
I attended the WVOX dinner at Mario’s to ensure that Richard received the proper recognition from Westchester County. We made June 13 his day in Westchester County in a proclamation, and here are some of the nice things we said about Richard:
— The embodiment of loyalty
— Unfailingly gracious and dedicated individual
— A true community broadcaster
— Host of WVOX’s longest running program: “Bronx-Westchester Church News”
— Weekend and overnight manager and music director
— A nice and friendly person who is kind to all
Congratulations to Richard Littlejohn and WVOX – it has been a great partnership for 25 years! WVOX has been extremely generous to me for almost two decades in allowing me to host radio shows and discuss county issues with the listeners. Thank you Bill O’Shaughnessy for ensuring that this wonderful community radio station continues to provide such terrific service to New Rochelle and our surrounding communities.
Please tune into my WVOX radio show every Tuesday morning from 10 to 11am. You can listen at 1460AM or www.wvox.com.
