An early-morning fire left residents in more than 40 units in three apartment buildings without power for hours. The fire broke out in a first-floor laundromat in a four-story apartment building at 43 Drake Avenue. Mexico Lindo, a restaurant next door to the Wash & Dry laundromat had some water damage.
Con Edison spent the morning to working to restore power which went back around noon.
The fire could have been much worse. The Drake Avenue firehouse is just two blocks down the street from the scene of the fire. Firefighters arrived in a few minutes where they encountered a fully involved fire. The fire was brought under control very quickly.
