Police Officer Marc Weinerman was appointed to the Department in February 2004, and is currently assigned to the Police Services Division’s Critical Incident Unit as a K-9 handler. He is the recipient of one Class C Citation, three Commendation Awards and a Lifesaving Award. He is partnered with K-9 Tank, one of the Department’s three canines. On three separate occasions in February, Officer Weinerman and Tank were invaluable in Department investigations. On February 2nd , while assisting the New York State Police with a vehicle search, Tank Located a trap which contained a significant quantity of marijuana that would have likely not been found using conventional search techniques. On February 6th , Tank recovered a loaded 9 mm handgun used in a shooting, and the handgun was covered in several feet of snow. On February 18th , Officer Weinerman and Tank tracked a suspected drug dealer several blocks and located him on the third floor of a building. In recognition for his excellent work, Officer Marc Weinerman was designated Officer of the month for February 2011.
Each year, as part of National Police Week each May, the City of New Rochelle acknowledges outstanding police officers and units. The 2012 New Rochelle Police Department Awards Ceremony was held at the Greentree County Club on May 16th.
