Image002 2 New Rochelle, NY – Sound Shore Medical Center (SSMC) is pleased to announce that its Outpatient Pediatric Immunization Program won The Healthcare Association of New York State’s (HANYS) 2012 Community Health Improvement Award.

At the HANYS annual meeting held June 27 and 28 at the Sagamore Inn, Bolting Landing, New York, Senior Vice President of Patient Services, Pamela Dupuis; Vice President of Nursing, Lori Baker-Stone and Amelou Policarpio, Nurse Care Coordinator for the Outpatient Pediatric Clinic were present to accept the prestigious award. The winner is chosen by a committee of national healthcare professionals who judges submissions from across New York State. The Award recognizes outstanding initiatives that improve the health and well-being of communities.

Sound Shore Medical Center’s winning Program demonstrated leadership with a long-term commitment to childhood immunizations. It also showcased collaboration with area agencies to ensure success, and, most importantly, achieved impressive results through increased immunization rates for children from birth through two years of age. As a result of its dedication, SSMC received a national Certificate of Excellence award for achieving Healthy People Immunization goals two years ahead of schedule. In addition, the Program had a 100% increase in immunizations within a two year period and achieved a success rate of 94% for children 12 months of age who completed the series of vaccinations recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices. Further, the Immunization Program resulted in an increase in clinic visits that produced opportunities to monitor other areas of health, leading to improved well being of its patients.

President and CEO of Sound Shore Medical Center, John R. Spicer, commenting on the honor said, “The HANYS Community Health Award recognizes outstanding initiatives that improve the health and well-being of communities.” He continued, “Sound Shore Medical Center is proud of its healthcare services and its dedicated staff that helps make our community residents healthier.” He concluded, “We are pleased to be recognized by HANYS for our Outpatient Pediatric Immunization Program.”

HANYS’ President, Daniel Sisto, commenting on Sound Shore Medical Center’s 2012 Award said, “The Outpatient Pediatric Immunization Program is a great example of the innovative programs that hospitals are creating across the state to address critical issues within their communities.”
