NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Dr. Regina Peruggi McCallion, a graduate of The College of New Rochelle (CNR) was awarded the Women of Achievement Award at the College’s 74th annual Alumnae/i College Weekend in June. The award was instituted in 1999 to recognize alumnae/i for brilliant accomplishments in their chosen careers. Judith Huntington, president of the College, presented the award.
Following her undergraduate career where she earned her B.A. in Sociology, Dr. Peruggi McCallion earned her M.A. from New York University and her Ed.D. from Columbia University’s Teachers College. In 1974 she was appointed Associate Dean for Adult and Continuing Education. In this role she expanded adult literacy programs as well as programs involving local business, industry and labor unions, and faculty development. From 1990 to 2001, she served as President of Marymount Manhattan College, followed by her position as President of the Central Park Conservancy.
In 2004, she assumed her current position as President of CUNY’s Kingsborough Community College. She served as chairperson of New York State Adult Learning Services Advisory Council and as a member of the New York State Literacy Council. She has been a board member of numerous organizations including the American Red Cross and the Women’s Refugee Commission. Currently, she is chairperson of the Board of the Havens Relief Fund Society and serves as a Board member of the Brooklyn Economic Development council, Berkeley College and Mount St. Ursula.
