The New Rochelle Council of Community Services honored four outstanding community leader, and awarded two $1,000 scholarships at their annual luncheon on Thursday, June 7th. Over 100 guests attended the event honoring Deborah Blatt, the founder of “Sharing Shelf”; Sylvia Samilton-Baker, Director of Providence House; Mary Jane Reddington, member of the Board of Education and the New Rochelle Public Library Foundation, and past president of numerous organizations; and Alan J. Cohen, proprietor of A.J.’s Burgers and community supporter.
The NRCCS will also awarded two $1,000 scholarships to New Rochelle High School juniors who have exemplified the mission of the New Rochelle Council of Community Services by selflessly dedicating their time and talents to help others. The 2012 recipients were Carmen Rojas-Rivas and Catherine “Cassie” White.
The New Rochelle Council of Community Services is an umbrella organization for 35 health and human service agencies, religious institutions, educational facilities, and individuals serving New Rochelle.
