Obituary: Margaret E. “Peggy” Strome (1928 – 2012), Mother of New Rochelle City Manager

Margaret E. (Peggy) Strome, 84, died in Naples, Fla., June 18, 2012.

A former summer resident of Lake Carey, Peggy was born in York, the daughter of the late Arthur and Ethel Strayer.

She spent her formative years in Kingston where she attended Wyoming Seminary preparatory school and where she first met her husband of 57 years, Charles Bowman Strome, Jr.

She graduated from Skidmore College and prior to her marriage, taught at Springside School in Chestnut Hill. During her marriage, Peggy was active in the Junior Leagues of Philadelphia, Westchester County, N.Y., and the League Club of Naples, Fla.

In addition to her husband, Peggy is survived by her children: Molly Hahesy and her husband Tom of Randolph, Mass., Charles Bowman Strome III and his wife Agatha of New Rochelle, N.Y., and Arthur L. Strome and his wife Hillary of Mechanicsburg; five grandchildren: Tommy and Meg Hahesy, Nicole and Carl Strome, and Jessica Strome; by her sister-in-law, Nancy Benoit of Naples, Fla.; and by several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service was held on June 26 in the West Club House, Bentley Village followed by a luncheon at the Audubon Country Club.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts in Peggy’s name be directed to Avow Hospice, 1095 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples, FL 34105 or to the United Church of Christ, 5200 Crayton Road, Naples, FL 34103.
