Westchester County Charter Revision Commission Launches New Website

WHITE PLAINS, NY — The Westchester County Charter Revision Commission (WCCRC) announced today their website is now ‘live’ with a link to it on the Westchester County Board of Legislators homepage at westchesterlegislators.com.

The new WCCRC website features separate pages that list members of the commission, a full selection of meeting minutes and archived videos of past meetings, including those of the four sub-committees (Budget & Finance; Charter & Codes; Executive & Legislative Relationship; and Local Government—County Government Relationship), and past press releases.

There is also a link to the County Charter on the WCCRC website, as well as contact information. The url of the new website is http://westchesterlegislators.com/charter-revision-commission.html.

“The challenging task of assessing our County Charter involves the discussion and analysis of a number of important issues in various meetings, and this website gives residents and business owners an opportunity to observe these proceedings,” said WCCRC Chairman Richard Wishnie, a former Westchester legislator and Ossining Town Supervisor. “Our findings and recommendations are being developed in a transparent manner, and now we’re using the Internet to make this process even more open to public feedback and interaction.”

The Westchester County Charter Revision Commission was established to study, review and recommend changes to the Westchester County Charter and Administrative Code. The Commission is composed of a total of twenty-three voting members with each County Legislator appointing one member and the County Executive appointing six members.

Roles and responsibilities of the WCCRC include: study the operations of the County of Westchester in their full scope; a consideration of the inter-municipal relations between the County of Westchester and various cities towns and villages within the County; a review the myriad responsibilities that the County of Westchester discharges in the course of its broadly defined duties; a determination whether the Westchester County Charter and the Westchester County Administrative Code should be amended so as to create a more effective and efficient framework for County government; a recommendation if such amendments as may be necessary to facilitate the delivery of services to the public and to better coordinate the functions between departments and agencies of the County and the various cities, towns and villages within the County; and the submission of a final report, which shall include the Commission’s findings, conclusions, and recommendations for appropriate action to the County Board of Legislators.

The fourth Thursday of the month has been chosen as the regular meeting date of the WCCRC. The meetings are open to the public. The next WCCC meeting will take place on Thursday, May 24 at 7 PM, at the Westchester County Board of Legislators office on the 8th floor of the Michaelian Office Building in White Plains.
