The campaign to protect religious freedom in the United States is being followed in the New Rochelle area. Father Martin Biglin, Pastor of Holy Name of Jesus Church and Vicar of the Sound Shore Vicariate, reports all parishes in the Vicariate have been informed of the need for all congregations to say the designated prayer for religious freedom in our Country. You can read more about this at www.usccb.org/conscinece. Holy Name Church, as did many other churches, held a prayer service.
In Westchester on Saturday June 23, 250 people attended a religious freedom rally in White Plains. Fr. George Kuhn, Pastor of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Yonkers, spoke about how the Catholic Church can not agree to the mandates, nor give up the many charitable services it provides. Many other parishes in the area participated in this Fortnight for Freedom. The program is set to culminate on July 4, 2012.
The prayer for religious liberty follows:
Almighty God, Father of all nations,
For freedom you have set us free in Christ Jesus (Gal 5:1).
We praise and bless you for the gift of religious liberty,
the foundation of human rights, justice, and the common good.
Grant to our leaders the wisdom to protect and promote our liberties;
By your grace may we have the courage to defend them, for ourselves and for all those who live in this blessed land.
We ask this through the intercession of Mary Immaculate, our patroness,
and in the name of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
with whom you live and reign, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
