New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson finally cut loose in Charlotte after several days of grumbling about the seating, the security, and the superficiality of the entire event — repeatedly referring to himself as a stage prop for the Obama campaign.
Jeff Bridges, at the DNC promoting his No Kid Hungry campaign, played a concert with his group, the Abiders. The Dude and his band have appeared at both conventions to promote his cause.
Although not invited, Bramson, along with the Little Bramson Urban Achievers, joined Bridges on stage, carrying the New York State delegation sign with him.
At one point Bramson managed to catch the eye of the actor.
“What’s with the sign, man?” asked Bridges.
“This is very complicated case, Jeff,” said Bramson, muttering as he wandered off with the sign. “You know, a lotta ins, a lotta outs, a lotta what-have-yous. And, uh, a lotta strands to keep in my head, man.”
Bramson has been carrying around the sign all week, much to the consternation of the senior member of the New York delegation Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY).
“If I get my hands on Noam I am going to rip that sign right out of his hands,” said a clearly angry Schumer.
Bramson first got hold of the sign on Monday afternoon when only a handful of staff were in the convention center. Bramson, who has not been having the best time in Charlotte, has clung to the sign like a long lost friend ever since.
Informed of Schumer’s threat to take the sign away, Bramson has cautiously avoided all TV cameras in and around the arena. Bramson is well aware that Schumer has a medical condition which requires him to remain within 15 feet of a TV camera at all times and has been using that to his advantage.
