United Water New Rochelle advises that the New York City Department of Environmental Protection has completed emergency repairs to a valve on the Delaware Water Supply system which provides water to the service area. As a result water supply operations have returned to normal and the company rescinded its request for outdoor conservation.
Last night the company asked customers to stop watering their lawns while the repairs were in progress.
Customers heeded the request and United Water was able to meet their water needs today. “We apologize for the inconvenience and we thank our customers for their cooperation,” said Chris Graziano, director of operations.
Some residents expressed concern about the ability of the New Rochelle Fire Department to fight fires with lower water pressure in New Rochelle. Fire Chief Lou DiMeglio was not concerned.
“There was no disruption in service,” said DiMeglio. “We can experience about a 20% decrease in pressure during peak demand but the water company can boost the pressure in an emergency.”
