NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A DEA task force including members of the New Rochelle Police Department, New York State Police and New York Police Department raided a house at 71 Church Street in New Rochelle, NY on Sunday afternoon. Law enforcement agents including some DEA agents seized roughly 50 pounds of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $800,000.

DEA spokeswoman Erin Mulvey said it is the biggest seizure of methamphetamine in New York State history. She said the drugs were shipped from the West Coast.

Christopher Wendell Melendez, 31 and Jesus Villaneuva, 41, were both arrested at the scene. The pair came out of the house in handcuffs and were taken into custody by New Rochelle Police. They are expected to be arraigned in New Rochelle City Court on Tuesday.

Police on the scene would not comment, saying the investigation was ongoing. Additional arrests are expected, according to a DEA spokesperson.

Talk of the Sound was the only news agency present during the arrests and took exclusive photos.

There were over 20 officers present and over a dozen vehicles from various law enforcement agencies.

Neighbors said they never noticed anything unusual at the house and expressed amazement at seeing such a large law enforcement presence in their neighborhood.

The house sits across the street from The Master’s Hand Church including the church’s daycare and after school center.
