NEW ROCHELLE, NY — In time to celebrate Homecoming Weekend, Iona College is scheduled to welcome over 100 students back to campus with the opening of East Hall, Iona’s newest residence hall, on Wednesday, October 17 through Friday, October 19, 2012.
“The construction of this much needed residence hall is indicative of our commitment to students and was made possible earlier this year through the diligent and collaborative community planning process. Neighborhood leaders, city officials, and representatives of Iona College worked together to identify solutions,” said President Joseph E. Nyre, Ph.D. President Nyre also thanks the New Rochelle City Council for their support of Iona College, which has a significant and positive economic impact in New Rochelle and surrounding communities.
East Hall is three stories and has the capacity to house 112 students. There is an elevator in the center lobby area and lounges on both the second and third floors. Each room has wireless internet, cable television and telephone lines. The main floor hosts a kitchen area, the mail room and laundry facilities. Three resident assistants and one campus minister will also reside in East Hall.
“The opening of East Hall is an exciting time for the Office of Residential Life. We want our students to stay on campus so that they can have a more robust academic experience. With the addition of East Hall, we will continue to grow in a way that provides more bed space for students on campus while adding to a holistic view of the Iona student experience,” said Carllos Lassiter, director of Residential Life.
There will be a continental breakfast available to students beginning at 8:30am in the East Hall lobby on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week. Light refreshments will also be provided to students at 5:30pm on Friday in the East Hall lobby as part of Homecoming festivities.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at a later date to commemorate this newest addition to the campus facility.
