NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The collection of fall leaves will begin on Monday October 15, 2012 in New Rochelle and conclude on or about December 28, 2012. Leaves must be either raked to the curb and stacked in long windrows, or bagged for pickup following the guidelines below. Citywide pickup of bagged leaves will occur on the following six Saturdays: November 3rd, 10th, 17th and December 1st, 8th 15th. With the onset of leaf collection, yard waste collection is suspended until spring.
For collection purposes, bagging of leaves is the preferred method for disposal as the collection process is much more expeditious. Place leaves in biodegradable 30-40 gallon paper bags or open containers weighing no more than 75 pounds. Leaves placed in plastic WILL NOT be collected.
When leaves are placed at the curb, it is important that they do not block storm water catch basins, which when restricted can cause flooding; or block fire hydrants, which can impede fire suppression efforts. It is also important that they do not block traffic lanes, causing vehicles to veer into oncoming traffic. Residents are responsible for making sure that their gardeners follow the rules.
The collection schedule will be updated weekly on the City website www.newrochelleny.com/leafremoval . Additional Leaf Removal information can be found on Cablevision Channel 75 or Version FIOS Channel 28.
Effective October 15, 2012, Alternate Side of the Street sweeping will end. Alternate Side of the Street Parking Rules WILL REMAIN IN EFFECT to expedite the removal of leaves from alternate side streets.
