NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Iona College hosted visitors from Universitat Abat Oliba CEU on Tuesday November 13 and Wednesday November 14. The visit provided an opportunity for the representatives to learn about Iona College, examine collaborative possibilities, set the stage for direct follow-up and to sign a general Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish cooperative relations aimed at recruiting students from Spain to study at Iona and enhancing study abroad opportunities for Iona students.
“Abat Oliba is part of a large Catholic school consortium in Barcelona and throughout Spain and is particularly interested in having a Catholic college partner in the New York metropolitan area. We welcome this opportunity to expand our academic outreach through this international partnership,” said Joseph E. Nyre, Ph.D., president of Iona College.
Officials from Abat Oliba included Elena Ardiaca, Belen Marron, Dr. Carmen Parra, and Government of Catalonia, Head of Delegation, Andrew Davis, Ph.D. Other areas of future collaboration may include faculty exchanges, joint research, conferences, team-teaching via digital platforms, and intensive immersion programs.
