The nature of which this data has been made available and also the use of the scripting for the maps makes it VERY Easy to extract all of this data quickly and efficiently. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND COULD BE USED FOR BASIC IDENTITY THEFT.
As you can see this uses Google Maps to display the data in an interactive and easy to use format. Though if you wanted to analyse/view this data differently rather than just clicking on each individual circle e.g. searching for an individual’s name or ZIP Code. You can. This Map relies on another service provided by Google called Fusion Tables. Think of it like Microsoft Excel but for the web.
In this case, I can look at the source code of the web page (Right Click > View Source) look for the Google Map Elements and get the File IDs for each of the Fusion Tables. Use that same ID to open the file. I get this:
From here I can also extract this data into a CSV file which can be opened in Excel:
This is wrong and the County are at fault as well as the newspaper for providing the data for this. There is potential for damage and risk for each of these 33,329 people listed. Additionally, this would also be a marketer’s “wet dream” especially for marketers in the industry for gun trade.

White Pages?
I may be a bit antiquated having grown up in the 70’s (born 1970) but how is this different form the White Pages?
Maybe we need a bit of history on the White Pages? With the white pages you look up a persons name and it tells you their address (unless they pay to not be included).
When I look at this gun map, how exactly can I ‘steal’ someones identity any different from looking up their name and address in the white pages? Does the fact that they have a handgun permit make this somehow easier?
