NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A contractor, Lorono Construction, digging in the area of 410 Davenport Avenue struck a 3 inch gas main, severing the line and sending natural gas spewing out at a rate fire department officials estimated to be 10 pounds per minute. The area has been overwhelmed by the smell of gas fumes. Con Edison has been called to the scene. New Rochelle Police have closed off the area.
The gas main leak is located in close proximity to T.L.C. Transitional Learning Center located at 555 Davenport Avenue.
According to the T.L.C. web site, the school offers a school year program September through June for children ages 21 months – 7 years. The School Director is Jeannette Mirabile.
Police are redirecting frantic parents to a holding area nearby, the parking lot at Davenport Park. Fire department officials are assuring parents their children area safe.
The Fire Department is trying to shut down the gas line to the house at 410 Davenport Avenue.
UPDATE: NRFD gave the all clear. Road are open. Con Ed on scene putting things back in order.
