I have just received an update from Michele L. Nelson, Director of Off-Campus Housing Iona College regarding the status of the situation involving the detonation of explosive devices several weeks ago in the area around the college. Apparently the New Rochelle Police have resolved the situation and caught the people responsible for the explosions. Here is the letter from Charles J. Carlson Vice Provost for Student Life.
To all Members of the Iona Community,
I’m pleased to let you know that the situation involving detonation of devices several weeks ago has been resolved. The New Rochelle Police Department confirms that it has made arrests related to the incidents that took place on February 23, 2013, near the Children’s Library at Eastchester Road and North Avenue and on February 22 and March 1 in our then-vacant Summit Avenue Parking lot.
The suspects have been identified as local youths who reside in the area and are not part of the Iona College Community. The devices involved were large types of fireworks.
We are grateful to the dedication and prompt response of the New Rochelle police and Iona’s Office of Campus Safety and Security to maintain the safety of our community during this investigation. I am most pleased that the situation has been resolved without any injuries being reported.
Thank you again for your continued support and all that you contribute to making Iona College a safe and caring community.
Charles J. Carlson
Vice Provost for Student Life
