The College Of New Rochelle To Confer 1,000 Degrees At 106Th Commencement; Senior Disney Executive to Give Commencement Address

Ann Sweeney PhotoNEW ROCHELLE, NY — The College of New Rochelle (CNR) will celebrate its 106th Commencement as it graduates the Class of 2013. The College will award approximately 1,000 baccalaureate and master’s degrees during commencement exercises on Wednesday, May 22, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at Radio City Music Hall.

Anne Sweeney, Co-Chair, Disney Media Networks, President, Disney/ABC Television Group will give the Commencement address. Ms. Sweeney is a graduate of The College of New Rochelle, Class of 1979.

HONORARY DEGREES:

This year at Commencement the College will confer honorary degrees on two distinguished recipients: Anne Sweeney and Michael N. Ambler, Esq., Chairman of the Board of Trustees of The College of New Rochelle.

Anne Sweeney is Co-Chair, Disney Media Networks and President, Disney/ABC Television Group. Ms. Sweeney has repeatedly been named the “Most Powerful Woman in Entertainment” by The Hollywood Reporter, one of the “50 Most Powerful Women in Business” by Fortune and one of “The World’s 100 Most Powerful Women” by Forbes. In 2008 she was honored with the Broadcasters Foundation of America’s Golden Mike Award for Outstanding Contributions to Broadcasting, the Matrix Award for television from New York Women in Communications, Inc., as well as the National Cable & Telecommunications Association’s Vanguard Award for Distinguished Leadership.

Ms. Sweeney was inducted into the Cable Center’s Hall of Fame in October 2007 and recognized by the Producers Guild of America with the President’s Citation for her efforts on behalf of diversity across the Disney/ABC Television Group. In 2004 she received the Muse Award from New York Women in Film & Television, and was inducted into the Broadcasting & Cable “Hall of Fame.”

She has been honored repeatedly by Women in Cable & Telecommunications — as Executive of the Year in 1994, Woman of the Year in 1997, and as the recipient of the Advocate Leader Award from WICT’s Southern California chapter in 1998. In 1995 she received the prestigious STAR Award from American Women in Radio and Television. She was inducted into the American Advertising Federation’s Advertising Hall of Achievement in 1996. In 2002 she received Women in Film’s esteemed Lucy Award and has been awarded the Cable Television Public Affairs Association’s President’s Award.

Ms. Sweeney earned a BA degree from The College of New Rochelle and an Ed. M. degree from Harvard University.

Michael N. Ambler, Esq. has been Chairman of The College of New Rochelle Board of Trustees since 2004, having been first elected to the Board of Trustees in 1993 where he served as Chairman of the Board’s Finance and Investment Committee.

Ambler began his professional career with the law firm of Sullivan and Cromwell in New York in 1962 as an associate attorney. In 1969 he joined Mobil Corporation in New York as a Tax Counsel, and was appointed Supervisory Tax Counsel there in 1973, and Senior Tax Counsel for Mobil Oil, the company’s domestic subsidiary, in 1975. Mr. Ambler was named Senior Tax Counsel for Mobil Corporation in 1979, where he subsequently directed all aspects of domestic and foreign tax matters for the company.

In 1988, he joined Texaco as Deputy General Tax Counsel, and was named General Tax Counsel of the company in 1990. He retired in 2001.

He is a director of Young Concert Artists, Inc. in New York City and is the senior warden at the Episcopal Church of the Atonement in Quogue, New York. Mr. Ambler is also a member of the Union Club in New York City.

A graduate of Princeton University with a BA in History, Mr. Ambler has a law degree from Columbia University.
