NEW ROCHELLE, NY — New Rochelle Police are responding to reports of an intruder wearing a black, pull-down mask attempting to enter Jefferson Elementary School shortly before noon.
Police units through the City are responding to the scene. They have checked D’Onfrio Park and CostCo parking lot as well as Park Ridge, Emmett Terrace and Mount Tom Road.
Jefferson School has been put on lockdown. Mount Tom Day School has been put on notice. Trinity and Isaac have been notified of the incident. Trinity initially went on lockdown but changed to lockout. The status at Isaac is still not clear.
UPDATE 12:17 PM: NRPD says Jefferson School is off lockdown, on lockout.
Police currently have no description of race/ethnicity or clothing.
Police are checking to see if the person who attempted to enter the same building on January 3rd, 2013 is involved. That person is a student at New Rochelle High School who lives in a group home.
UPDATE 12:39 PM: It appears this might not be the same person. The original Zorro from January was living in a group home on Summit Avenue and attending New Rochelle High School. Police have now learned that this person is now living in Queens and no longer attends New Rochelle High School. Police now have a description of clothing, the person was reportedly wearing a black sweatshirt with a skull on it with a mask pulled down over his face.
UPDATE 12:52 PM: News12 now on the scene, Eyewitness 7 has their helicopter over the school, and there is one other unidentified media truck.
Initial reports indicate school security procedure was followed at Jefferson and Trinity, not at Isaac.

New Rochelle Police were called to Jefferson School after a man wearing a “Zorro mask” entered the building and, according to the NRPD scanner, declared “I’m here to protect the children”.
The man, known to the school, walked into the school through the main entrance and was stopped by security. He was described by police as “stocky”, about 5′ 6″ and wearing “some kind of zorro mask”.
School Security Director Bruce Daniele was called and Daniele called police, according to New Rochelle police.
