My email and reply.
Mr. Korostoff:
Do you agree with the State teachers union that the students scores will go down 30% this year? Next year I think the Regents will be impacted so I am presuming a lot fewer students will graduate. Are the schools gearing up for this eventuality? Thanks again for your answer.
Dear Ms. Godfrey,
In an April 10 newspaper article co-authored by the NYS Commissioner of Education and Chancellor of the State Board of Regents, it reads: “And yes, because the new tests are aligned to a higher bar, the percentage of students scoring proficient or above will not be comparable to previous years. Kentucky saw an almost 35% difference between the Common Core scores and its old test results.” So who am I to argue with them? As for more challenging Regents exams, we will align our instructional program with these new standards and do everything possible to prepare our students to be successful.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey Korostoff
