Veteran and Former New Rochelle Police Detective Leaves Behind Heavy Hearts in the Community

Eugene A. McLeer, a longtime resident of New Rochelle, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2013.  He was 82.   

Gene, who served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War, was past Commander of the American Legion Post 8,  past Commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 439, both of New Rochelle.  He was also Past President of the United Veterans Memorial & Patriotic Association (UVMPA) of New Rochelle. Gene also served as Grand knight at Knights of Columbus Post 339 at St Joseph’s Church New Rochelle. Eucharistic Minister at St Joseph’s Church. Past President of St Joseph’s Parish Council.

Gene was a Detective for the New Rochelle Police Department for over 23 years where he was a past Vice President of the PBA.  He also served on the Citizens Advisory Board of the New Rochelle PBA.

Gene was predeceased by his wife, Emilia.  He is survived by 2 sons and a daughter, by 3 sisters, by 3 grandchildren, and by a great grandson.  He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be Saturday and Sunday from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 pm at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel, 16 Shea Place, New Rochelle.

A funeral Mass is scheduled for Monday at 10 am at St. Joseph’s Church, 280 Washington Ave., New Rochelle.  Interment will follow at Beechwood Cemetery, 179 Beechwood Ave., New Rochelle.
