NEW ROCHELLE, NY — New Rochelle’s Library Green will again be transformed into a lively oasis of fabulous music, cool breezes and summer fun, when the popular “Music on the Green” concerts take place on three consecutive Thursday evenings, beginning July 18th. Three free concerts presented by the New Rochelle Downtown Business Improvement District (BID) feature top-flight musicians who perform music that appeals to a wide range of interests and ages. The concerts run from 7:00 – 8:30 pm. In the event of rain or strong possibility of thunderstorms, concerts will be moved into the Ossie Davis Theater, in the adjacent New Rochelle Public Library.

On July 18th, Louie Miranda and Su Banda, kicks off the series with a crowd-pleasing mix of pop, salsa, country, R&B, and more – from the 60’s to today. With his Manhattan-based musicians on bass, keyboard, percussion and guitar, Louie gets everyone up, moving, dancing, singing and enjoying timeless and thoroughly enjoyable favorites.

The sounds of Motown, funk, R&B, and soul will fill the park on July 25th, when Funk That Band takes the stage. The fresh exciting group of musicians who have been performing throughout the tri-state area for years is led by Brent Williams, a versatile drummer with 30 plus years of experience – including gigs with The Main Ingredient, The Weather Girls, Curtis Mayfield, The Platters, Phyllis Hyman, Sara Dash, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, to name a few.

With five saxophones, four trombones, four trumpets, and a full rhythm section, Something Special guarantees a fabulous night of big band sounds on August 1st. The Something Special band’s superb musicians, led by Phil Costa, play a variety of music from nostalgia to contemporary swing. The group is best known for its exciting Basie style that has won it praise as “one of the finest swing/jazz bands in the New York area.”

The Music on the Green concerts are made possible by the New Rochelle Downtown Business Improvement District (BID) in cooperation with the New Rochelle Department of Parks and Recreation and the New Rochelle Public Library.
