New Rochelle DPW Worker Arrested for DWI in Mahopac

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A New Rochelle Department of Public Works employee, Richard Maccarone, 48, was arrested in Mahopac, NY after Carmel, NY police officers, driving in a police vehicle, observed Maccarone driving towards them halfway in the wrong lane. Maccarone works in Street Light Maintance.

On May 2, 2013, at approximately 9:40 pm, officers James Shay and James Terrazas were traveling southbound on Hill Street when they observed a vehicle heading in the opposite direction half way into their lane of traffic.

According to Carmel Police Chief Mike Johnson, the driver of the other vehicle abruptly swung back into his lane. A traffic stop was conducted. Maccarone was interviewed and given a field sobriety test. Based on the results, Maccarone was placed under arrest.

Maccarone was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Driving with more than .08 percent Blood Alcohol; and Failure to Keep Right. He was released on his own recognizance.

Maccarone later plead guilty to a reduced charge of Driving While Impaired.

The arrest took place a short distance from Maccarone’s home in Mahopac.
