CapoeiraNEW ROCHELLE, NY — The New Rochelle Public Library’s 30th season of the popular International Music and Dance series continues on Tuesday, July 30th at 7:00 pm, with a performance of Brazilian Capoeira. To drums and traditional percussion, the astounding movements of the martial art-dance form will be presented by Master Bom Jesus and guest masters and students of the Brazilian Capoeira Center. A sizzling performance of Samba percussion and dance will top off the show.

Capoeira is a centuries-old Afro-Brazilian art form that was developed as a method of expression and self defense by the African slaves in Brazil. Today it is Brazil’s second largest sport after soccer, and is fast becoming a globally recognized art and sport form. With a distinctive blend of martial arts, dance, ritual, music, and emphasis on functional core strength, flexibility and balance, it is considered an ideal workout by many.

Admission is free and limited to the capacity of the library’s Ossie Davis Theater, on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 6:45 pm.
