Written By: Talk of the Sound News

New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson has decided to hold a fundraiser the same night as a City Council meeting has been made. What will Bramson do?
What will his fellow democratics on council do I’m sure they will want to meet Bill Clinton?
New Rochelle residents pay your salary Mr. Bramson you know the one you raised,I’m sure you can tell Bill that you will be able to meet up with him later in the evening after the Council meeting. I know you won’t let the people of New Rochelle down. Maybe the republicans should hold a vote on Echo Bay? This was published on a local website

Former President Bill Clinton will hold a fundraiser for Noam Bramson, the Democratic mayor of New Rochelle, in his race for Westchester County Executive.

Tickets to the fundraiser at the Hilton Westchester in Rye Brook on Oct. 21 cost from $100 to $10,000. Everyone above $2,500 can attend the VIP reception and take a photo with the ex-president.

“I am humbled and honored to stand with President Clinton and to have his vote,” said Bramson in a statement. “As County Executive, I will work to uphold in Westchester the same principles of opportunity, community, and responsibility that shaped the President’s exceptional service to America.

  1. The Tea Party is Both Sensible and Victorious
The Tea Party is Both Sensible and Victorious
by KEITH KOFFLER @ WhiteHouse Dossier.com

I realize that sounds quite delusional to many people, particularly here in Washington. But it makes total, absolute sense.

The muttering class Inside the Beltway is very pleased with itself: The doomed Tea Party strategy is foundering on the shoals of idiocy, just like they said it would. The Republican “brand” has been downgraded yet again. America is looks foolish abroad: “The world has reacted mostly with disbelief that a superpower could fall into such dysfunction,” wrote the New York Times today. Reasonable people will soon be back in charge so they can do reasonable things in a reasonable way without all these Tea Party lunatics stirring up trouble.

Let me tell all of you something:

THIS COUNTRY IS ALREADY IN A STATE OF TOTAL DYSFUNCTION, AND HAS BEEN FOR YEARS.

A state of dysfunction, mind you, brought to you by the “reasonable” people who have been striking deals for years that have created $17 trillion in debt and a possibly irreversible degree of Socialism that is lobotomizing our tradition of independent thinking and creativity, crippling free enterprise, and carving the soul out of the moral, God-fearing ethic that has made this nation the greatest on earth.

You’ll see them all on the Sunday talk shows, concurring solemnly with each other about the need to avoid such shenanigans again so our system can resume functioning in a normal manner.

But as you and I know, “normal” has become a state of somnolence in which our leaders steadily sleepwalk us into the abyss.

We are adding new entitlements, even as the old ones are tens of trillions of dollars in debt. That’s right, tens of trillions. That’s what it will cost to make sure our children get the same Medicare and Social Security benefits their grandparents are enjoying.

We have begun a vast new economic arrangement, Obamacare, imposed by one ruling Party on the entire nation, that will ensure our children will one day die needlessly from a ruined health care delivery system and that will invite the federal government into countless aspects of our lives.

The “crisis” that would ensue if we breach the debt ceiling is not something caused by the Tea Party. It is a manifestation of the crisis that already exists. WE ARE ALREADY UNABLE TO PAY OUR BILLS WITHOUT THE HELP OF COMMUNIST CHINESE BUREAUCRATS. WAKE UP AMERICA!

That’s all the Tea Party is saying to people. That’s all that’s happening here. The economic chaos and harm that might ensue if there is breach of the debt ceiling is no more than a preview of the meltdown that is on the way once all the bills catch up with us and once the U.S. has declined to the point that the savages replace us as the world’s preeminent economic and military power.

Man’s ability to ignore uncomfortable truths and live in a preferred reality is remarkable. People spend years avoiding problems they know will cause them great harm down the road. But when it’s the government, this tendency is multiplied. No one really is responsible, and everyone will simply point the finger at someone else when things collapse and then go out and campaign for reelection as the only ones who can “fix” things.

The Tea Party, with its willingness to demand a stop to this freak show by shuttering the government and halting debt payments, is revolutionary, but not radical. Because sometimes revolutionary action is the reasonable course. The Tea Party is no more radical than were our Founding Fathers, who also staged a revolution when there was no other choice.

Summarizing some polling data, the Wall Street Journal today presents a picture of who the Tea Party regulars are:

Many frustrated liberals, and not a few pundits, think that people who share these beliefs must be downscale and poorly educated. The New York Times survey found the opposite. Only 26% of tea-party supporters regard themselves as working class, versus 34% of the general population; 50% identify as middle class (versus 40% nationally); and 15% consider themselves upper-middle class (versus 10% nationally). Twenty-three percent are college graduates, and an additional 14% have postgraduate training, versus 15% and 10%, respectively, for the overall population. Conversely, only 29% of tea-party supporters have just a high-school education or less, versus 47% for all adults.

Many tea-party supporters are small businessmen who see taxes and regulations as direct threats to their livelihood. Unlike establishment Republicans who see potential gains from government programs such as infrastructure funding, these tea partiers regard most government spending as a deadweight loss. Because many of them run low-wage businesses on narrow margins, they believe that they have no choice but to fight measures, such as ObamaCare, that reduce their flexibility and raise their costs—measures to which large corporations with deeper pockets can adjust.

In other words, the Tea Party is comprised of SENSIBLE PEOPLE hoping to restore some sense to the nonsense prevailing in Washington. They have come to the conclusion that, faced with a president who wants nothing but to expand government and a Congress unable to impose the thorough restructuring necessary to save the union, extraordinary measures are needed.

I don’t know if good people with the values that would save this country can withstand the monumental, grinding combined force of a government that sucks the life from the nation so it can itself live and a population that has grown habituated to the guarantee that other people’s money will be – and must be – provided to them.

But the people comprising this movement are right to give it a try.

    1. Scully – I enjoyed your sarcastic description of the Tea Party
      Mike Scully:

I presume your Post was knowingly self-mocking and sarcastic, and therefore found it rather humorous, kind of like reading something by Hunter S Thompson. If you expounded on it, and published such humor as a novel, I’d suggest entitling it as ‘Fear and Loathing in the Tea Party’.

I say this, because your Post, if it could actually be taken seriously, indicates it was written by a person who fears and loathes those things that has made the USA a great nation, while unrealistically fantasizing about his personal mythology substituting that mythology for the history of the USA.

I’d like to hear more sarcastic humor about the Tea Party’s absurd mythology, Mike, so please name a current major country that is less socialist than the USA.

And name a major country that is currently economically more viable than the USA, and tell us how the absence of socialism made that country’s economy so vibrant.

And please define the following, and discuss how these differ from each other: anarchy, communism, socialism, free enterprise, capitalism, fascism, feudalism.

And what does religion, at all, have anything to do with economics, other than religion itself being a big business driven by varying religious mythologies.

Of course, you are aware, that the USA was the first nation created on the basis of separation of Church and State, with a Constitution requiring no religious tests nor belief in religion, for public office and citizenship.

Consider that the USA deliberately designed itself a flag that has no religious icons on it.

Compare our agonistic Stars and Stripes to the UK’s Union Jack with its four Christian Crosses representing the monarch of the UK as the head of the Church of England. Compare our Stars and Stripes to the immoral, disrepute Confederate States of America’s Battle Flag with its two Christian Crosses.

      1. Is The Tea Party ‘God Fearing’ ?
Really, the Tea Party is insane, irresponsible and ignorant, resulting in its Congressmen having just destroyed the Republican Party, while attempting to destroy the US economy, all while hallucinating it was doing the opposite.

Worse yet, the Tea Party is unsatisfied with their obvious destruction of the Republican Party. Their Congressmen will attempt to do the same thing early next year, resulting in the Democrats regaining control of the House of Representatives and adding Senators in the sixth year of Obama’s presidency.

That will occur because the reactionary, extremist Tea Party will ‘primary’ against any electable moderate / conservative Republican incumbents / candidates, resulting in more and nuttier Tea Party Republicans running in the general elections and losing to moderate/conservative Democrats.

And in 2014, many moderate / conservative Republican Congressional incumbants in Virginia or outside of the states of the former CSA, will lose to Democrats solely because of the irrational behavior of the Tea Party Republicans in Congress.

I can see why the Tea Party is ‘God fearing’. The rest of us, who do care about our less fortunate neighbors, have less to fear of God.

    2. The Tea Party is a Cruel Joke
It must be presumed by all readers of TOTS, that Mike Scully has disproven his own economic beliefs, by his inability to answer the following:

      1) Name a current major country that is less socialist than the USA.

      2) Name a major country that is currently economically more viable than the USA, and tell us how the absence of socialism made that country’s economy so vibrant.

If anyone can name such countries, please post that information at TOTS.

There are many reasons why the USA is a great nation. Captialism has proven itself a benefit with many problems.

The little socialism that does exist in the USA, has mostly benefitted our country without causing problems, and has offset some of the serious problems caused by the innate greed embedded in capitalism, therefore making capitalism viable, even during times of economic distress.

Other reasons the USA is a great, innovative country, continually improving itself, are immigration of people and ideas, and due to the USA government repeatedly investing large amounts of public money on infrastructure going back to the founding of our great republic.

And main reason for the USA’s debts is due to our becoming a warrior nation since we entered WWII. If the Tea Party was really concerned about our national debt, they would be mostly pushing for reducing our so-called ‘defense’ budget.

  2. Fundraiser
It might be worth spending the money just to see that Noam might realize he is not the smartest person in the room. Do you think Clinton will get a cut of the proceeds?

  3. Bill Clinton lives in Westchester
There’s an election for County Executive, on November 5, 2013, in less than a month. Noam Bramson is running for that office, and Bill Clinton lives in Westchester and is a constituent to that office.

I see nothing wrong with the fundraiser you have described, other than that you are concerned that Noam will be elected County Executive. New Rochelle will get a new Mayor early in January 2014, less than three months from now.

    1. New Rochelle will not be
New Rochelle will not be getting a new mayor in a few months–Bramson will remain. The only thing wrong with this fund raiser is that if people contribute $2500 to Bramson’s campaign, they can have their photo taken with Clinton. That sounds like a bribe to me. Bramson is clinging by a thread and that is why he is pulling this stunt.

      1. Astorino will be devastated in the 2013 Election
I’m sure, Astorino would gladly throw a fund raiser, where people would pay $2500 to have a photo with a popular Republican President. However, Reagan died a long time ago, and no one wants to associate with GW Bush. What other national Republicans are popular? John Boehner or Mitch McConnell? Or nuts and nits as Ted Cruz, Louie Gohmert or Steve King? You’re just jealous that Democrats are more popular than Republicans.

There is no way that Astorino will be reelected. He is not running against a stale Andy Spano, so Astorino has little voter support in Westchester in 2013.

Tea Partiers such as Astorino, are unpopular in our county, because most local voters are not Republican, while most local Republican voters are moderate, with many local Republicans working on Wall St.

The current situation in the House of Republicans, will result in Republican candidates getting devastated in elections in 2013, throughout the USA.

Most Americans are shocked and upset, at how the Republicans of the House of Representatives are trying to destroy the American and World economies, by shutting down the Federal government, and by refusing to raise the debt ceiling.

As there are few federal elections this year (and none in Westchester), voters are going to greatly show their displeasure by voting against most Republicans running for local government. This will further increase Astorino’s loss.

Noam Bramson will cease to be Mayor on January 1, 2014, the same day he will be inaugurated as County Executive. We will get a new Mayor in January 2014.

    2. There is a problem
The problem is Brian that Noam is making almost $200.00 a day on the back of the taxpayers of New Rochelle to be a part time Mayor. He only has to go to ribbon cuttings and two city council meetings a month. He should have had his meet and greet another day not on a day when a city council meeting was to take place.

      1. There is a Bigger Problem
Those who would want to pay good money for the opportunity to meet and eat with Bill Clinton are the Choir of the Democratic Party they like Brian and Mitch and the others already have voted in their mind for Noam Bramson. Caro and Bramson’s problem is reaching the Democrats who are voting for Astorino.
Right now the numbers don’t look great for Noam.
That said I look at it as a win win cause if Noam wins we are rid of him, and if he losses he has been neutered. With the Stream of people within New Rochelle against him building his wings will be clipped. What I thought was bad is now good no matter the result.

      2. Both major parties have Meet and Greet Fund Raisers
I understand Jim’s point, regarding the fundraiser occurring at the same time as Council Meeting, although I doubt any harm was done.

But I see no reason to complain about a fundraiser with a meet and greet with Westchester resident Bill Clinton.

Both major parties regularly conduct fundraisers that way.

Astorino would have a similar fundraiser, except that there are few nationally known Republicans he would want to be publically associated with. Not while or after what is occurring in Congress. 2013 is a terrible year for local Republicans to be running for office. 2014 will be a worse year for Republicans, nationwide.

Right now, Westchester’s voters are hardly paying attention to our local elections. Everyone’s attention is riveted on the follies of a few Republicans in Washington.

Those Tea Party Congressmen and Senators mostly represent States of the former Confederacy. They are trying to destroy our economy and the functioning of our government, unseemingly because they don’t like the USA having a Black President. And this, in the midst of the hardly-noticed 150th anniversary of the Civil War.
