Monroe College sent out a required alert to the campus community notifying them of a knife attack on Main Street in downtown New Rochelle.
On Thursday, October 24, 2013, at approximately 11:54pm, two students were assaulted while walking on Main Street in front of the Main Building, 434 Main Street. One of the students was assaulted with a knife. Fortunately, he is expected to fully recover from his injuries. The other student was not harmed or hospitalized. The assailants are unknown to the college. Both are described as young African American males between the ages of 16 and 20. Both were wearing hooded sweatshirts and jeans.
The New Rochelle police department was immediately notified and responded. The college administration is working aggressively with the police to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Please be assured that the college has increased the security presence around the campus, including special attention and patrols during overnight hours from the New Rochelle police department.
