A City of New Rochelle garbage truck went up in flames Wednesday morning on Lockwood Avenue across from a medical office building located at 110 Lockwood Avenue.
It took two engines and a ladder truck to put out the fire on truck number G8 which is a fairly new truck to the fleet. The truck was a total loss.
No injuries were reported.
The fire started in the back of the truck directly behind the cab.
A sanitation worker on the back of the truck noticed smoke coming out from the side of the truck and alerted the driver.
The driver and two packers working on the truck escaped.
The fire spread to the cab and engine, totally engulfing the front of the truck in flames and black smoke.
