Lost in all the drama of the fight over Echo Bay Tuesday night was a major development in the resolution of a contract for New Rochelle’s firefighters.
The City of New Rochelle and Local 273 of the Uniformed Fire Fighters Association came to terms Tuesday on a stipulation of agreement.
The UFFA has yet to ratify the stipulation. Upon ratification by the union, the stipulation of agreement will be submitted to the City Council for approval.
The agreement covers a 10 year period from January 1, 2011 through December 31, 2020. It provides for moderate increases, and establishes a new minimum step for Entry Level Fire Fighter which is 10% lower
than the current minimum salary.
Components of the agreement are:
• Salary Increases beginning January 1, 2011 through December 31,2020 to increase in each year 1.5%, 1.5%,2%,2%,2%,3%,3%,3%,3%,3%.
• Effective January 1, 2014, a new minimum salary step for Entry Level Fire Fighter of $38,768, which is 10% lower than the then minimum salary of$43,076.
• Effective January 1, 2011 through December 31, 2020 Longevity payment upon completion of 5, 10, 15 years of service will increase $75 each year. Upon completion of 17 years service the increase is $100 each year.
• Effective January I, 2011 through December 31, 2020, the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Differential to increase in each year 1.5%, 1.5%, 2%, 2%,2%,3%,3%,3%,3%,3%.
• Incentive for unused sick leave to increase 10% effective 1/1/14 and by an additional 10% effective 1/1/18.
• Effective January I, 2014 Payment in lieu of health insurance shall be compensated at $500 per month.
• Effective January 2011 through December 31, 2020, increase the Uniform Allowance by $35 each year to each member of the bargaining unit. Increase the additional allowance paid upon promotion to lieutenant or captain by $50 effective 2014″.
