THE NEW ROCHELLE NUTCRACKER

Ajkun Ballet Theatre’s annual New Rochelle Nutcracker features the Company’s professional dancers performing alongside the talented children of Westchester County in the Holiday classic The Nutcracker. Students ages 3-13 have been rehearsing weekly since October to present to their community a suite from the ballet staged to Pyotr IlyichTchaikovsky’s magical music score and Marius Petipa’s choreography.

Join us in this magical tradition and support the young talent in your community this Holiday Season!

ABOUT THE NUTCRACKER

A fairy tale ballet premiered in 1892 in St. Petersburg, The Nutcracker has become perhaps the most popular of all ballets, performed primarily around Christmas time. Based on Alexandre Dumas ‘s adaptation of the story “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King” by E.T.A. Hoffmann, the story opens on a Christmas Eve party at the Stahlbaum’s house. As Clara celebrates with friends and family, her mysterious Uncle Herr Drosselmeyer arrives and presents Clara with a Nutcracker Doll. After everyone is asleep Clara sneaks downstairs to have another look at her beloved gift, falls asleep, and begins to dream. The Mysterious Herr Drosselmeyer evokes a battle between the mice, led by their fierce Queen, and an army of soldier dolls, led by Clara’s very own Nutcracker, come to life as a handsome prince. After the battle is won Clara embarks on a magical journey through the enchanted pine forest with dancing snowflakes who lead Clara and her Soldier Prince to the Kingdom of Sweets. Greeted by the regal Sugar Plum Fairy and her attendants, Clara and her Prince are entertained by Spanish Chocolate, Chinese Tea, and other characters. Finally, the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier perform the Grand Pas de Deux before Clara’s dream is over and she awakes in reality, but with the memory of the magical journey with her Nutcracker Prince.
