An exciting selection of free programs awaits children in Pre-K through Grade 5 during the December vacation week, at the New Rochelle Public Libraries. On Thursday, December 26th, “Up, Up & Away!” is the theme of the day, beginning with a 1:00 pm showing of The Red Balloon in the main library’s Ossie Davis Theater. One of the most beloved children’s films of all time, this simple, wordless classic movie is about a young boy who discovers a stray balloon, which seems to have a mind of its own, on the streets of Paris. The 34 minute film is suitable for all ages. At 2:00 pm, the favorite Disney classic, Mary Poppins, will be shown. “Practically Perfect In Every Way” Mary Poppins (Julie Andrews) flies out of the windy London skies and into the home of two mischievous children. With the help of a carefree chimney sweep named Bert (Dick Van Dyke), the spirited nanny turns every chore into a game and every day into a “Jolly Holiday.” The G-Rated film runs 140 minutes.
“One man’s junk is another man’s treasure,” is the motto for holiday craft workshops on Friday, December 27, from 10:30 am – 12:00 noon at Huguenot Children’s Library, and from 2:00 – 3:30 pm in the main library’s meeting room. Participants will create great art by thinking, revising and expressing ideas using boxes, bottle caps, ribbon, paper from wrappings, catalogues, and many other things normally discarded. Each workshop is limited to 25 children ages 4 and older, on a first-come, first-served basis.
On Monday, December 30 at 2:00 pm, one of the most popular children’s entertainer, Jim McClenahan, returns to the main library’s Ossie Davis Theater for another of his side-splitting performances of Magic and Comedy. Jim will delight all ages with his zany humor, wacky antics, and cool tricks. First-come, first served, to the capacity of the Ossie Davis Theater.
The free programs are made possible by the Friends of the New Rochelle Public Library and the Partnership for the Huguenot Children’s Library.
