NEW ROCHELLE, NY — New Rochelle firefighters put out a fire in an illegal dwelling at 47 Fourth Street in the City’s West End.
Three families were left homeless. 1 firefighter suffered minor injuries and was transported to Sound Shore Medical.
The New Rochelle Fire Department responded at about 7:30 p.m. The fire was under control at 7:43 p.m.
The building has two one-room apartments, each housing a small family. One of the tenants admitted to fire officials to having illegally sublet a third room, a small “shack” towards the back of the building. The owner of the property was issued a summons.
Police on the scene counted three families but could not be sure of how many people were actually living at the location. They accounted for 8 people.
Westchester Fire Wire is reporting E21,22,24,L12.TL11 were on scene. Support requested from American Red Cross for 4 Adults and 2 Children displaced by the fire. WFW has additional photos.
