DPW Commissioner Alex Tergis and his crew deserve a job well done!
All in All, from what I have seen the last few days DPW Commissioner Alex Tergis and his crew deserve a job well done. With one more snow storm on the way a nice nap or a cold one is in order, whichever comes first is up to them. As I can see, the crews are still out there hard at work cleaning up after a few back to back storms with heavy snow and ice. These storms have tested manpower, equipment and patients along the entire east coast. Below is a notice I just received from New Rochelle Department of Public Works:

Storm Cleanup Update
Citywide message sent 2/14 at 5PM
This is a storm cleanup update from the City of New Rochelle. Salt supplies throughout the region are running low, so roadways tonight may be slick – please exercise caution.
With more snow expected Saturday, plows will continue to operate this weekend.
Tomorrow’s TV/Monitor pickup for the south end has been cancelled. To reschedule a pickup for March, please call 235-5830.
You can help by moving cars from the street where possible, digging out fire hydrants near your home or business, and observing no parking restrictions downtown to allow nighttime snow removal. Also, when shoveling out, please do not throw snow into the street.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Along with this notice I would suggest a little easy reading for a snowy day. It is the article By Robert Cox on Tue, 01/28/2014. It is the interview with DPW Commissioner Alex Tergis. Some of the city staff are not fans of Bob but he puts out some valuable information that could be helpful to them as good updated information is passed on to the citizens of New Rochelle. Many of you have heard that the city is under manned and running short on salt for the roads.
This problem didn’t happen overnight. It is a product of poor planning and management by the past DPW Commissioner Jeffrey Coleman (Resigned), Deputy DPW Deputy Commissioner – Operations Joseph Cotroneo (Fired), DPW Fleet Manager Richard Fevang (66-Count indictment). Then there is the Echo Bay Forest City Project, Moving the City Yard along with the lack of insight or oversight by The City of New Rochelle, The City Council and the taxpayers. Read the article, it will give you an inside look at what DPW Commissioner Tergis faces and must correct. I think he is doing a good job with what resources he has and he and his team should be congratulated for their hard work this winter. They have fought a tough fight and the fight isn’t over yet…
An Interview with DPW Commissioner Alex Tergis on the Costs of Not Having a Salt Dome
By Robert Cox on Tue, 01/28/2014

We need to get City Council to gain focus and look into what can be done to fix some of the problems now and into the future. A salt dome may be the first step. One that can be moved or re-purposed once a plan is made for the future of The City Yard. We know how long it takes to accomplish anything in New Rochelle so it would be a good thing to start asking your City Council Members the right questions. Some Council Members were on this council for several years and can and should be partly responsible for the mess we are in. Here are two sites that have information about Salt Dome companies. I found two and there are many more to consider. I am sure Alex has already pulled together information, I hope.

Remember what the notice said, “You can help by moving cars from the street where possible, digging out fire hydrants near your home or business, and observing no parking restrictions downtown to allow nighttime snow removal. Also, when shoveling out, please do not throw snow into the street”. I have seen some smart and some not so smart people out there and it makes the job more difficult.
Enjoy the snow and be careful out there.
