NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Iona College has established an analytics institute within the Hagan School of Business and under the direction of Dean Vincent Calluzzo. “The Iona College Analytics Institute will provide area businesses and organizations with reliable, independent data verification and decision modeling,” Calluzzo said. “Opportunities for students to be trained in the important field of data analytics will be an integral part of the institute’s mission.”
The first major program initiative of the new institute is the Center for Health Care Analytics. Directed by Paul Savage, senior clinical lecturer in the business school, the Center for Health Care Analytics will have close linkages to the Health Care Management MBA concentration program that Savage also leads. Iona’s Center For Financial Market Studies will also be part of the analytics institute.
In the future, the Iona College Analytics Institute will branch out in such areas as data security analytics, risk management analytics, financial analytics, and e-business analytics. As the institute grows, associated faculty will be drawn from across the Iona campus and beyond in such fields as information systems, marketing, finance, economics, mathematics and computer science.
“It cannot be timelier to have the analytics institute at Iona,” said Sibdas Ghosh, dean of the College’s School of Arts and Science. “We are inundated with data and the implications are huge in every sector. This institute, given the rise of electronic media and enterprises, will help us to train and prepare our students, faculty and collaborators alike across the disciplines to tackle ‘big data’ and become competitive, innovative and entrepreneurial to move the world.”
Data analytics encompasses a variety of underlying elements, including big-data gathering and cleaning, well-designed data storage and access processes, data exploration and visualization, and formal modeling. In addition to providing service to businesses, the institute’s goal is to help Iona College students excel through a combination of critical academic education and hands-on internship and experiential learning opportunities.

“The establishment of the analytics institute grows out of Iona College’s five-year strategic plan, Advancing Our Legacy And Defining Our Future,” said Iona President Joseph E. Nyre. “It supports our goals for elevating academic distinction, interdisciplinary pursuits, the student experience and entrepreneurial endeavors.”
