NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Since joining the community over 24 years ago, The Warhit Family has dedicated itself to giving back to both the City of New Rochelle and Westchester County at large. Between the two of them, Paul and Ilissa Warhit have served on the boards of 10 local organizations and their positive impact will be felt for generations to come. So when the Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle sought honoree nominations for the 2014 BE Great Event it was no surprise that the Warhit Family’s name was at the top of the list!
On Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 7:00 pm, the Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle will hold its major fundraising event, BE GREAT, at the Mercedes Benz of New Rochelle showroom. BE GREAT is a community cocktail party that applauds the efforts of individuals and companies that support charitable organizations like the Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle.
During the event, the Warhit Family, surrounded by friends, family members and local philanthropists will receive the 2014 Great Family Award in appreciation of their commitment to supporting local organizations and causes.
Paul Warhit has served as President of Temple Israel of New Rochelle and President of the New Rochelle Jewish Coalition. He currently serves as President of the Westchester Jewish Council, President of the New Rochelle Public Library Foundation, President of the American Jewish Historical Society, and is a Board Member of the Jewish Deaf Resource Center. Mr. Warhit also dedicated his time and talent last year to the New Rochelle School District by serving on the Community Advisory Committee for the New Rochelle School Board.
Ilissa Warhit is currently an Executive Board Member and the Fundraising Chair for Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic, a Board Member of the New Rochelle Fund for Educational Excellence, an Advisory Board Member of the Jewish Student Connection, and a past President of the Temple Israel of New Rochelle Sisterhood. Together, the Warhits are members of the Giving Circle of Westchester, a non-profit that collects monetary donations from its members and distributes money through the Food Bank of Westchester to organizations dedicated to combating hunger. Ilissa and Paul have passed their work-ethic and civic-mindedness to their three children. Josh is a graduate of New Rochelle High School and the University of Rochester and is currently serving in a combat unit in the Israeli Defense Forces. Aly recently graduated from Cornell University and will be attending Harvard Law School this coming September. Natalie is a busy junior at New Rochelle High School where she is a member of the PAVE Theater Program, Theater Works and the PAWS Club.
BE GREAT is truly considered a party with a purpose. Funds raised support the character development, leadership training, life skills and career exploration programs offered by the Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle to nearly 2,000 children each year. More important, the revenue generated from events like BE GREAT enable the Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle to continue its legacy as the place where children’s success stories begin!
“The Warhits embody all the qualities we hope our children will exhibit as they continue to develop said Quay Watkins, Executive Director for the Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle. They are philanthropic, family focused leaders working to make the world a better place. It is the Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle’s honor to recognize them with the 2014 Great Family Award. I truly hope everyone will visit www.bgcnr.org to purchase BE GREAT admission tickets, place a journal advertisement or commit to a sponsorship in support of the Warhits, our Club and the kids we serve. “
