Samantha Guillen has been selected as a National Scholar Girls Inc. She was a guest of the organization at their Girls Inc. New York Luncheon – Celebrating Women of Achievement.

Samantha attends Girls Inc. in Westchester County, NY. She credits the all-girls, supportive environment and the caring staff with helping her gain confidence and skills to defy stereotypes.

Samantha grew up very shy and had difficulty opening up to people and speaking up. As a Latina, she was also aware of the low expectations many outsiders hold for Hispanic girls.

At Girls Inc., her worth as a friend, student, and person was reinforced from day one. She received extensive college prep and academic support and will be the first in her family to attend college. She also credits the Girls Inc. scholarship with giving her the confidence to apply for other awards.

Samantha is one of 28 high school girls and 10 Latinas awarded college scholarships in 2014 by Girls Inc.

Girls Inc. National Scholars are outstanding young women selected for exemplifying the Girls Inc. mission of inspiring all girls to be strong, smart, and boldSM. They are role models for other girls who demonstrate a commitment to achieving academically and serving their communities.

Samantha is planning to attend Temple University and study marketing, PR, or journalism.
