NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Two Monroe College football players have been suspended by the school following their arrest last week on charges related to a narcotics-involved shooting incident near downtown New Rochelle.
The incident occurred at 3:37 AM on April 4th near the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Memorial Highway.
No weapon was recovered but is believed to be a .380 semi-automatic handgun.
Rudolph Henriquez, 21, of Irvington, NJ and Khalil Burns, 21, of Linden, NJ were arrested on April 7th, three days after the incident, following a police investigation that relied on new security cameras installed at various New Rochelle traffic intersections.
Henriquez was charged with 1st Degree Assault, a class B Felony, 2nd Degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon, a class C Felony, and 4th Degree Criminal Facilitation, a class A Misdemeanor.
Burns, 21 Linden NJ was charged with 1st Degree Assault, a class B Felony, 1st Degree Reckless Endangerment, a class D Felony, and 2nd Degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon, a class C Felony.
Both admitted to having previous criminal records.
During the incident, one bullet smashed through the window of a Dentist’s office located on the first floor of the Carrington Arms Community House at 33 Lincoln Avenue. The bullet hole was clearly visible a week after the shooting.
New Rochelle Police detectives were able to follow the car used in the shooting through the use of video surveillance cameras, sources say. The vehicle left the scene near the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Memorial Highway, drove towards downtown New Rochelle, then onto Division Street before making a left onto Main Street, then through the intersection of Main Street and North Avenue and on towards the main campus area of Monroe College.
Monroe College issued a statement:
We are cooperating with the New Rochelle police in their investigation of an incident that occurred last week. The students allegedly involved have been suspended, pending the outcome of appropriate legal and disciplinary proceedings. The safety of the New Rochelle community, including our students, faculty, staff and neighbors remains our highest priority.
Rudolph Henriquez, a Wide Receiver for the Mustangs, caught 25 passes last season for 403 yards and 8 touchdowns. He played for Hackensack (NJ) High School.
Khalil Burns, a Safety for the Mustangs, had 16 tackles, 1 fumble return and 1 interception last season. He played for Linden (NJ) High School.

At 10:56 p.m., Officer Joseph Russomanno initiated a motor vehicle stop for an observed speeding violation. As the officer secured the operator’s credentials, he detected the odor of burnt marijuana emanating from the vehicle. A subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of the 20-year-old operator, Rudolph Henriquez of Irvington, after he was found to be in possession of CDS marijuana (under 50g). The defendant was processed on the charge at police headquarters and released pending a Municipal Court appearance.
