The New Rochelle Fire Department received multiple calls about a house fire at 23 Bayard Street Around 12:15am Monday morning.Engine 24 was the first unit on the scene and reported heavy fire and smoke coming from the front and side of the house.
Most of the fire was contained to right side of the multi family house. The fire commissioner said that a tenant tried to put the fire out himself before calling 911 to no avail and that tenant had to go through a window to get out.
There were no reported injuries and tenants were waiting for the American red cross to put them up. The fire department had 4 engines and 2 ladder trucks at the scene.
