New Rochelle Cub Scouts Pack #1 of Holy Name in New Rochelle proudly made it their mission to give back to the community that supports them, by taking part in a group effort to clean up and beautify the Eugene A. McLeer VFW Tot Lot located on Pelham Road.
Cub, Weblo, Bear and Tiger Scouts grabbed their rakes, gloves and bags to show what it takes to be an active part of their community. Organized by Veteran Peter Parente, President of the UVMPA, and Pack Leader Clint Mohammed, the scouts chose the VFW Lot as part of their community service working hand in hand with local vets to clean up the park. This effort on behalf of the scouts not only teaches them about team work, but also tied in taking care of keeping the world clean in reflection of Earth Day, As each Cub Scout made their best effort to clean up, they also took part in earning their Community Service badges which they will proudly earn later this year.
All of the Cub Scouts involved today left the Eugene McLeer Tot Lot a clean, neat and cared for Park for kids to play in and enjoy themselves. They also left with a great sense of pride in themselves and accomplishment for doing something fantastic to be an active part of their local community. One of the next large events that Pack #1 Cub Scouts and the New Rochelle Boy Scouts are looking forward to being an active part of, are the Annual replacing of the American flags on the Veterans graves at Holy Sepulchre and Beechwood Cemeteries and soon afterward they will participate in the New Rochelle Memorial Day Parade and Festivities at Hudson Park.
The Date for the Flag Replacement at the Cemeteries will be Sunday, May 25th at 9:30 AM. This is an event open to the public, there will be a brief Ceremony at Holy Sepulchre followed by a group effort to replace the old tattered flags with brand new bright red white and blue American Flags. The Memorial Day Parade and after event at Hudson Park will be held on Monday May 26th at 10:30 AM.
